Work Stress Anxiety: Start Here
If work stress and anxiety are following you home, this is the doorway in. Not because you need another motivational quote laminated by someone in HR. But because if your sleep, your thoughts, your body, your confidence, or your sense of self are being affected by work — you deserve practical support that starts where you actually are.
Cheryl Paris helps high-functioning women calm work-related stress so they can think clearly, sleep better, and stop paying such a high price for coping. This is HerGuru Hypnotherapy and Coaching.
Start with the 8 pathways
No diagnosis. No cure claims. No wellness theatre. Just practical, nervous-system aware support.
Does this sound familiar?
This might be you if work has started following you home
You're doing fine, by most people's definitions. And yet something is quietly not fine. Here's what that often looks like.
The Braced Nervous System
You look capable on the outside. But your nervous system is constantly braced — waiting for the next thing to manage, absorb, or survive.
The Replay
You replay work conversations long after the day ends. Meetings, emails, that comment someone made at 11 a.m. — still running on loop at 10 p.m.
The 2 a.m. Inbox
You wake up thinking about emails, meetings, mistakes, or what might go wrong. Often before your alarm. Often with your heart already slightly too fast.
The Weight of Everything
You feel responsible for everything — including things that are genuinely not yours to carry. But somehow they still end up in your bag.
The Guilt About Resting
You cannot rest without guilt creeping in like an unpaid intern with a clipboard. Stillness feels unearned. Relaxation feels like a risk.
The Advice That Doesn't Land
You're tired of advice that sounds lovely in theory but collapses the moment real life appears. "Just set boundaries." Yes. Brilliant. Thank you.
Functioning is not the same as being fine.
What's actually happening
Work stress is not just "a busy week"
A busy week ends.
Work stress becomes a problem when your body stops treating work as something that ends. The laptop closes, but the threat system keeps scanning. That is why you can feel exhausted and wired at the same time.
Annoying, yes. Imaginary, no.
What's happening in plain English
When stress keeps repeating, your body can start running on high alert. You may notice overthinking, tension, shallow breathing, irritability, numbness, poor sleep — or that charming little habit of catastrophising at 2:03 a.m.
This does not mean you are broken. It means your system has been carrying too much for too long. That is not a character flaw. That is a nervous system doing exactly what it was built to do — in a context it was never quite designed for.
Overthinking
Thoughts looping without resolution
Sleep disruption
Wired but exhausted, mind won't quiet
Nervous-system overload
Braced, reactive, hard to settle
Emotional survival mode
Running on cope rather than capacity
The HerGuru approach
Calm first. Reality first. Then change.
The HerGuru approach is simple, but not simplistic. We do not begin by pretending everything is fine. We do not ask you to grow at the expense of your balance. We do not call exhaustion "mindset". We do not turn your pain into content with better lighting.
The work is shaped by the ABGW Method® — a practical framework for nervous-system aware change that actually fits real life.
Awareness
Name what is actually happening — without shame, without spinning it, without turning it into a productivity failure. Just honest recognition.
Balance
Calm the nervous system before asking it to change. You cannot think clearly from inside a threat response. This step is not optional — it is the foundation.
Growth
Take small, realistic steps that do not require heroic reinvention. No complete personality overhauls. No bootcamp-style transformation. Just genuinely workable moves.
Well-Being / Win-Win
Build a life where your wellbeing improves without everything else having to burn down first. Change that is sustainable. Outcomes that do not cost you everything else.
Your next step
Choose the door that fits where you are today
You do not need to figure out the whole thing right now. Pick the starting point that matches what you actually need today — not what you think you should need, not what looks most impressive. Just the one that fits.

A micro-step, right now
Before you disappear into another tab, try this
If your nervous system is already fizzing, do this before you decide anything. It takes about 30 seconds. It will not fix everything. That is entirely the point.
01
Feet on the floor
Both feet, flat on the floor. Feel the contact. That is it. That is the whole step.
02
Unclench your jaw by 2%
Not dramatically. Not performatively. Just slightly. You probably didn't realise it was clenched. Most of us don't.
03
Let your shoulders drop one centimetre
One. Centimetre. Not a yoga class. Not a full release. One small intentional drop.
04
One longer exhale
Breathe in normally, then let the exhale be a little longer than usual. That exhale signal tells your nervous system: we are not currently under attack.
05
Ask yourself one question
"What is one thing I can do today that would reduce pressure by even a fraction?" Not fix your whole life. Not solve every work issue. One fraction.
Why this page exists
This page is a doorway, not a warehouse
There are articles, podcast episodes, free guides, low-cost tools, and deeper support available across the HerGuru ecosystem. The point is not to overwhelm you with every single option at once.
The point is to help you choose one useful next step based on where you are today. Because complicated does not heal people. It just gives them another thing to feel behind on.

No diagnosis
This is not therapy. Cheryl is not diagnosing you, treating you, or making any medical claims. What she is doing is offering nervous-system aware, practical support for real working life.
No over-promising
No outcomes are guaranteed. No transformations are promised by Friday. Progress looks different for everyone — and that is genuinely fine.
No guru theatre
Cheryl is not trying to be a superguru. She is helping the reader become their own HerGuru. That distinction matters — and it shapes everything about how the work is done.
